Last Saturday, Alex and I ventured out for a concert featuring the band Swell Season, known from the film Once. While it’s not our usual music style, they are incredibly talented, and we thought, why not embrace a little edge for a change?
Here are my candid takeaways from our rare night out:
- Getting carded after having three kids is hilarious. I almost considered revealing my stretch marks as my ID.
- Opening acts can be a bit of a downer. No one really cares to hear them, and they often feel like mere fillers until the main event. The poor performer last night even got booed! It would have been more pitiful if he didn’t resemble a character straight out of a horror film.
- At concerts with standing room only, personal space is a myth. This is particularly challenging for someone like me who cherishes a little breathing room.
- I discovered that quietly passing gas does not create a buffer zone, as my husband promptly announced, “Someone farted! Can you smell that?”
- Standing for two hours was much more enjoyable a decade ago. My knees definitely had other thoughts.
- If you ask your 13-year-old neighbor if she’s been to an over-21 venue, chances are you’ll hear a no. If the answer is yes, you might want to rethink leaving her in charge of your kids.
- Live music is thrilling, but honestly, nothing beats a cozy Saturday on the couch with my laptop.
In the end, I felt like a total loser for preferring my couch to the concert experience!
