Every day, I find myself as a mom in constant motion. From the moment I wake up until I finally rest my head at night, there’s no pause in the whirlwind of activity. The to-do lists seem endless, stretching on and on without conclusion.
First, it’s time to rouse the kids, followed by getting breakfast ready for them and, let’s not forget, pouring myself a cup of coffee—if I can remember to breathe in between!
“Quickly, we can’t be late!” I call out, searching for shoes and backpacks. “What do you mean you don’t want to wear a jacket?” The morning rush is relentless, my feet never stop moving. I juggle multiple tasks at once, knowing that it’s the only way to tackle the chaos of the day ahead.
“Focus here! No, over there! Everywhere!” The coffee needs a refill, and the computer beckons me to dive into work. The clock is ticking—hurry, hurry, or we’ll be late!
I pick up one child, then the next, checking backpacks and signing agendas along the way. Homework time is a challenge. Was it always this complicated? Luckily, my daughter can help her younger brother with his math homework. Ah, the joys of Common Core! Remember when 2×2=4? It feels like a lifetime ago.
We’re on the move again, a flurry of activity as dinner needs to be served. Just a few bites, please! While they eat, I’m busy loading the dishwasher, sweeping up crumbs, and wiping down the counters—never taking a moment to rest.
“Can you put your backpack away?” I ask. “And find your shoes so tomorrow morning goes a bit smoother.” Their replies are a chorus of “I don’t know where they are!”
Dance class for my daughter and karate for my son means it’s a race to the car. Off we go again! After dropping off one child, I dash to drop off the other, squeezing in some errands while they are occupied. Where did I put that list?
Once we’re back home, the shower is non-negotiable. “Yes, you need to wash your hair, and hurry up—your sister is waiting!”
“Do you want a snack?” I ask, tucking them in for the night. As the day begins to quiet down, I’m running low on energy but still have tasks left to complete: checking the laundry, emptying the dishwasher, making sure we have milk, and setting up the coffee pot for the morning.
Even as I settle into bed, my mind races on, creating the to-do list for tomorrow and adding tasks from today that didn’t get crossed off. There’s always tomorrow, and the cycle continues.
