Being a mom, as my little one often puts it, is truly “a big job.” No one really prepared me for the realities of motherhood; it has been more of a “learn-as-I-go” adventure. Yet, I would never exchange this experience for anything else. Sure, there are moments when I might jokingly consider putting my kids up for auction online, but the emptiness I would feel without them is unimaginable. Who needs spontaneous nights out with friends or visits to the trendiest restaurants? Not me!
And while I do miss those stiletto-clad escapades and fun trips to Las Vegas, the warmth of baby kisses and snuggles from my daughters fills my heart in a way nothing else can.
When I became a mother, I discovered a profound love that I had never truly known before—real, unconditional, unwavering LOVE. Growing up, my parents often chose their social lives over family, so my experiences of love came from various figures in my life. I like to say my brother and I were raised “by a village.” While we were surrounded by caring individuals, there’s an incomparable depth to a parent’s love, and the absence of that from both my mother and father left a void in my heart.
The moment I held my daughters—whether it was right after their birth or during those precious kangaroo care moments with my twins—the love I felt was breathtaking. I can’t fathom loving anyone or anything more than my children. Yes, I still dream of European vacations and exciting nights out, but I’m perfectly content trading stilettos for family movie nights.
Now, I get to provide my daughters with the love and attention I yearned for as a child. I want to be the kind of parent who prioritizes them and loves them unconditionally. I just hope I don’t mess it up too badly. Wish me luck?
