We come in a diverse array of shapes, sizes, beliefs, traditions, and circumstances. While our children may think we were born into motherhood, the reality is that it’s a journey we all navigate in unique ways—some of us excel, while others are still finding our footing.

Our maternal wisdom doesn’t come pre-packaged with a shiny ribbon. We acquire it through observation, sheer determination, resilience, and the challenges we face along the way. We are at the forefront of our families’ lives. Whether we hover protectively or maintain a more distant approach, our choices are often scrutinized and debated. We are honored, criticized, revered, and, fortunately, loved—though our love for our children often knows no bounds.

Our identities encompass a wide spectrum—single, married, divorced, LGBTQ+, heterosexual. We embody perfection and imperfection, strength and gentleness, and we keep therapists busy with our stories. We are the unlicensed healers, always on standby to mend scrapes and soothe shattered hearts.

As cheerleaders, enforcers, realists, dreamers, playmates, chefs, and detectives, we embrace the multifaceted roles of motherhood. Each day presents a new lesson, and we become both students and teachers of the life we lead.

Whether working from home or in an office, our responsibilities are extensive and our time often feels fleeting. Regardless of our financial situation, the rewards of our labor are immeasurable—they may not be tangible, but they enrich our lives in profound ways.

Most of us embark on this journey out of love, some seek recognition, and others simply find themselves in the role. Yet, each of us possesses the incredible ability to transform lives.

Together, we number nearly 90 million strong, bonded by sisterhood. However, we can sometimes be our harshest critics, forgetting that we have each other as sources of strength, motivation, and compassion.

As our children’s early milestones blur into distant memories—those precious first steps, first words, and first days of school—we strive to preserve them. We create scrapbooks, snap photos, and hold those moments close to our hearts.

Some of us believe that mistakes are unavoidable, clinging to traditional wisdom, while others advocate for learning from the past to pave a new future. One day, the future will arrive unexpectedly, and our children will grow up, leading us into new chapters of our lives. In those moments, surrounded by both old friends and new companions, we will discover that, despite our differences, we share the most important commonality.
