My little one just turned one year old. He’s devouring food like there’s no tomorrow (seriously, it feels like I’m feeding a ravenous teenager), and our breastfeeding sessions are becoming less frequent. This transition brings a mix of joy and nostalgia. While I cherish those intimate moments of nursing, I also look forward to reclaiming certain freedoms I’ve set aside. To mark the occasion of weaning, I’m ready to indulge in some long-awaited pleasures. Cheers to that!
1. Sleep In Beyond 6 a.m.
Even when my baby lets me sleep a bit longer, my body has other ideas. Once the clock strikes 6 a.m., my breasts make it clear that it’s feeding time. I find myself torn between pumping, nursing, or just suffering through the discomfort while hoping for a few more minutes of sleep. Soon, I’ll relish the luxury of sleeping without interruptions!
2. Reignite the Romance with My Partner
Remember when I mentioned in my previous post that I enjoyed carefree intimacy during the first six months of my baby’s life? (And yes, I stand by my statement about breastfeeding being a natural form of birth control—just look up “lactational amenorrhea” if you’re skeptical). However, the reality is that my desire has been pretty low due to exhaustion and hormonal changes. After my daughter was weaned, it was like a party in our bedroom for a month. Weaning is like a breath of fresh air for my love life!
3. Stow My Pump Away for Good
I have a complicated relationship with my breast pump—mostly negative. I’m looking forward to banishing it to the attic where it can gather dust until I either decide to have another child or happily part ways with it.
4. Savor Coffee and Margaritas Whenever I Want
No longer will I have to plan my caffeine and cocktail intake around nursing sessions. I’m ready to enjoy my beverages freely at breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
5. Treat Myself to New Lingerie
Post-breastfeeding, my body will change, and I’m excited to shop for some gorgeous, flattering bras. It’s time to uplift my spirits (and my figure) with some sexy new pieces!
6. Enjoy Marathons of Errands Without Interruption
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to nurse in parking lots, desperately trying to squeeze errands in between feedings. It’s awkward when security checks in to see if everything is alright, especially when a tiny hand pops out from under my shirt. Soon, I’ll have the freedom to run errands without the added stress.
7. Take Medications Without Worry
When breastfeeding, I avoid medication unless absolutely necessary. I can’t wait to pop a pain reliever for even the tiniest headache without fear of it affecting my little one.
8. Reflect on the Bonding Moments
While nursing can be exhausting and sometimes frustrating, it’s also a special time spent with my child. I’m sure I’ll miss those quiet moments of connection.

In summary, the weaning process is not just an end; it’s a gateway to new experiences and possibilities. I’m ready to embrace this new chapter with joy and excitement!
