Dear Sweet Baby,
Hello! It’s your mom here, and I’m so excited to finally meet you! Your nursery is nearly set up in our new home. While we felt a pang of sadness leaving the city, we wanted to ensure that you and your brother would have access to top-notch schools. Now, we have a spacious playroom, a large yard, and four cozy bedrooms for you, your brother, and maybe even another little one in the future.
We’ve been counting down the days until you arrive. What’s taking you so long, little one? Are you being considerate of the other expecting moms in our circle? That’s sweet of you, but honestly, everyone seems to be either expecting or already has one or two children! You should have seen our holiday cards this year—half were birth announcements! You definitely won’t be stepping on any toes when you finally decide to join us.
Are you trying to teach me a lesson in patience? I know that’s not my strongest trait. I’m pretty good at handling your big brother, but throw me into a traffic jam or any tech issues, and I lose my cool pretty quickly.
Are you going to be just like me, taking your sweet time to arrive? I’ve always been a bit of a slow poke. Grandma used to tease me for being the last one to leave school!
Do you worry that because I love your brother so much, there won’t be space for you in our hearts? That couldn’t be further from the truth! My love for him doesn’t lessen my excitement to welcome you. In fact, it’s because I love him so much that we’re eager to have you in our lives. I can’t wait to watch the two of you grow up together!
Are you concerned that being in my belly will make me feel nauseous? Don’t worry; we have three bathrooms in this house, and I would happily pay my dues to the porcelain gods for you.
Are you thinking you’ll cause me back pain? I’m ready to sign up for prenatal yoga to ease that discomfort!
And just to clear the air, if you turn out to be a boy (which I suspect), while your dad thinks you’re a girl, I will be overjoyed to welcome you. Plus, I won’t have to learn how to wipe down!
You should know that I think of you constantly—more times a day than I can count. I daydream about snuggling with you after nursing, witnessing your first steps, and tearing up on your first day of kindergarten.
So, why the delay? Why can’t I get pregnant? Some days, I can’t shake the fear that your brother’s conception and birth were miracles meant only for us. Please prove those worries wrong. Join our family; there’s an abundance of love waiting for you.
Your big brother is set to start preschool this fall. When Grandpa asked what I’d do during that time, I thought about how wonderful it would be to spend it with you. Until then, I’ll be right here… patiently waiting.
With all my love,
Mommy
