Working mothers face a multitude of challenges: How to juggle a packed schedule? How to maintain their sanity? Most importantly, how will their choice to work impact their children?

The reality is that working moms are remarkable, something I learned firsthand from my own mother, who was the primary provider for our family. Even though I chose to become a stay-at-home mom, I can’t express enough the wisdom I gained from her, starting with these key insights:

1. Pursue Your Passion

My siblings and I often joke about how our parents nurtured our careers. Both my mom and dad are passionate about their work, and this influenced our own aspirations. I believe everyone should engage in something they love—whether it’s a job, a pastime, or a dream. It doesn’t have to be monumental; even small passions can brighten our lives.

2. Commit to Hard Work

My mom excelled in her career not just because of her intelligence, but due to her relentless dedication. She taught me that hard work yields results. Whether striving for personal achievement or supporting family, it’s essential to invest effort and thought into what we do.

3. Prioritize Your Well-being

My mother valued her personal time, and I’ve come to appreciate that need as well. It’s why I choose to enroll my kids in daycare, even though I don’t have a job. Without time to recharge, I struggle to be my best self. Every parent deserves moments to unwind, and our own needs are just as critical as those of our children.

4. Avoid Judging Other Parents

My mom has always marched to the beat of her own drum, unconcerned with others’ opinions. She focused on doing her best in her job without judging other mothers, regardless of their choices. This philosophy—recognizing that everyone is doing their best given their unique circumstances—is one I embrace wholeheartedly.

5. Be an Inspiration for Your Kids

A friend of mine mentioned that her primary motivation for working is to set an example for her daughters. It’s vital for both girls and boys to see that mothers can thrive in the workplace. Although I’m a stay-at-home mom, I discuss gender roles with my kids, thanks to my mother’s influence. I can confidently tell them, “Absolutely women can work; your grandmother is a perfect example!”

Having a working mother is a true blessing. Without her example, I might not have pursued my dreams with such vigor. I aspire to be the same source of inspiration for my children.

If you’re a working mom, remember that your job can positively influence your children, helping them appreciate the value of hard work and determination.
