I think we need to have a little heart-to-heart about chores. It seems there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding between us. When you were really young, there were certain tasks you couldn’t handle yet. But now that you’ve grown up, there’s a lot you’re capable of doing to help around the house!
Unfortunately, it feels like I’m still the one doing most of the work. I’ve been wondering if maybe you think I’d be upset if you took on some cleaning duties. Let me assure you, after years of tidying up after you, I’m totally confident in my cleaning abilities!
Maybe you’re worried that giving me a break might lead to some boredom on my part. I can promise you, I’ve had my hands full since the day you were born, and I know I could easily fill any spare time I have with plenty of other activities.
It’s possible that in the chaos of our daily lives, I may not have clearly communicated that you now have my full permission to tackle those chores you once couldn’t do! So, consider this your official invitation to jump in and lend a hand.
Here are just a few things you can help with:
- Recycle: When you finish a soda or snack, don’t leave the empty container on the counter. Go ahead and toss it in the recycling bin! It’s right there waiting for you.
- Do Your Laundry: I know I can get busy and may not wash your favorite clothes every week. Remember when I showed you how to sort laundry and use the machine? Feel free to take charge of your own laundry anytime!
- Load the Dishwasher: It’s just a few steps from the sink to the dishwasher. Next time you have dirty dishes, take a moment to load them in instead of letting them pile up.
- Unload the Dishwasher: If you open the dishwasher and see clean dishes, don’t hesitate to put them away. It might take a little time, but you probably have that episode of your favorite show recorded anyway!
- Vacuum: I know the sound can be a bit intimidating, but with your earbuds, you can easily drown it out. Trust me, you all are much louder than any vacuum!
- Scrub the Toilets: After all the times I’ve cleaned up after you, you might find it quite satisfying to take on this task. Go ahead; you might just enjoy it!
And remember, these are just a few suggestions. There’s also mopping, dusting, organizing, and more. If you ever want to try something new, know that you can always come talk to me. I promise I’ll be proud, not annoyed.
I’m really glad we had this chat. It feels good to get this off my chest, and I hope you’re feeling motivated to help out around the house. Now, how about you go clean something?
With love,
Mom
