In this episode, Mia returns to her clinic to care for a troubled, HIV-positive drug user who leaves before she can arrange his hospital transfer. Meanwhile, Lucas faces a disheartening critique of his photography during a class session and seeks encouragement from his friend, Max, the artist. During their conversation, Sophie inquires about Lucas’s pictures from a recent barbecue, which ignites tension between Max and Sophie. Max expresses his frustration, urging her not to involve Lucas in the complicated legal battles surrounding the incident: “Quit pretending to be a hero and just be Sophie!” he snaps, revealing a rift in their united front against the repercussions of the slap.

When Mia asks Sandy how she will handle the next time Harry strikes her, Sandy confidently replies that he won’t. “He can’t afford it,” she reveals, hinting at her own leverage in their ongoing struggle for control within the family dynamic.
