You Can Now Stream All Episodes of ‘Seinfeld’ on Hulu!
“Sure, you could have popped in a DVD, but who really wants to do that?” quipped Jerry Seinfeld when the streaming deal was unveiled on Wednesday. But wait, what even is a DVD player anymore?
While Hulu has kept the financial details under wraps, speculation online suggests they forked over approximately $180 million for the beloved sitcom—translating to about a million dollars per episode.
“There’s no denying the significant impact Seinfeld has had on television history, which is why we’re thrilled to offer the entire series for streaming for the first time ever,” said Hulu SVP, Tim Morgan, in a statement to BuzzFeed. “Whether you’re a longtime fan looking to relive iconic moments or a newcomer wanting to experience Seinfeld from the very beginning, Hulu is now your go-to platform for one of the most celebrated shows in TV history.”
Nevertheless, some critics are questioning whether the hefty price tag is worth it for a series that many viewers over a certain age have already enjoyed, especially since it continues to air in syndication. “What’s the actual exclusivity here?” pondered Financial Analyst, Lisa Chen. “Yes, Hulu might be the exclusive online platform for Seinfeld, but that street cred doesn’t necessarily translate to financial gain.”
Furthermore, Forbes raised concerns about the show’s binge-worthy potential, suggesting that Hulu is banking on attracting new subscribers. However, they argue that Seinfeld occupies an “awkward vintage,” being too old to feel contemporary yet too recent to be a classic. Even more importantly, the show may lack the binge-watching appeal that Hulu hopes for; at a million dollars an episode, Hulu will want subscribers to consume it rapidly, rather than picking and choosing episodes.
I wholeheartedly disagree. I’ve seen how my 14-year-old daughter and her friends approach TV viewing, and it’s a completely different experience. They don’t even keep track of what’s currently airing—they simply find a series online and binge-watch it from start to finish. Once they’re done, they move on to the next show, similar to how we would have devoured classic series like The Brady Bunch if we had the technology back then.
Interestingly, that “awkward vintage” of Seinfeld seems to hit a sweet spot with today’s teens. My daughter has recently plowed through shows like Dawson’s Creek, ER, and One Tree Hill. She even had a Hannah Montana phase (despite having seen every episode live) until Netflix surprisingly removed it last December.
And guess what series her middle-school friends binge-watched last month? Friends! They devoured every episode twice after Netflix secured it for a reported $500,000 per episode last year. I firmly believe that Seinfeld is not just binge-worthy, but perhaps even sponge-worthy. So here’s to a new era of streaming!

In summary, Hulu’s acquisition of Seinfeld marks a significant moment in streaming history, making all episodes available for the first time ever. While some skeptics question its value, the changing viewing habits of younger generations may suggest a bright future for the beloved sitcom on the platform.
