As a mother for about 441 days, I’ve undergone a transformation that feels both miraculous and frustrating. While I’ve gained some wonderful traits, I’ve also found myself embracing my inner diva. Here’s why:

  1. The Initiation Phase: Those first three months were my crash course in motherhood. I was tied to my breast pump, couldn’t enjoy a drink, and was running on fumes. I longed for help, but when it came, it felt all wrong. Handing over my little one to my sister or mother-in-law felt impossible; I thought I should do it all myself.
  2. Sleep Deprivation: Ask any new mom what her dream gift is, and you’ll hear “sleep” every time. Between swaddling, teething, and separation anxiety, sleep was a rare luxury. The lack of rest zapped my patience, turning me into a total diva.
  3. Unsolicited Advice: The moment you announce your pregnancy, it’s open season for advice from everyone. “Don’t eat that!” “You should rest!” “Breastfeeding is best!” It feels overwhelming, and sometimes I just want to scream, “Enough already!”
  4. Body Changes: Growing a tiny human is an incredible feat, but that doesn’t mean I won’t grumble about the changes it brought. I’m frustrated that my favorite jeans now gather dust and my once-stylish lingerie has been replaced with sports bras that aren’t even used for sports. Yes, I gained weight during pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean I can’t lament over my pre-baby body that seems long gone.
  5. Me Time: I adore being a mom, yet I crave my alone time. I don’t want to wipe anyone’s nose or plan my day around nap schedules. I daydream about enjoying a burger in bed while binge-watching my favorite shows without interruptions. If that time is denied to me, brace yourself for the diva that comes out when you walk through the door after a long day.

I’m not intentionally being difficult; it’s just part of the motherhood experience. In summary, motherhood has undoubtedly shaped me in ways I never anticipated. While I enjoy every moment, the challenges have also revealed a side of me I didn’t know existed.
