A Back-to-School Message From Your Teacher to Parents

Dear Parents,

It’s that time of year again—back to school! If your kids haven’t already swapped their beach towels for backpacks, they soon will. We understand the whirlwind of summer you’ve navigated, and as educators welcoming your little ones back into our vibrant classrooms, there are a few thoughts I want to share on behalf of all of us.

First and foremost—thank you! We totally get how thrilling it is to enjoy a hot cup of coffee again after two months of lukewarm sips. We’re more than happy to take over the task of reminding Oliver to keep his pants on at school, because let’s face it, public places have certain expectations (like keeping your pants on!). If you find yourself in need of a vacation after repeating this a few more times, you won’t be alone in wishing for an escape to a serene place (who doesn’t dream of Fiji now and then?).

We also know you’re at your wit’s end with Emily’s creative endeavors, like transforming the family cat into a strawberry jam masterpiece. We’re ready to step in and remind her not to stick pencils in her ears or use rubber cement inappropriately, so you can finally tackle that ever-growing to-do list that feels like it could reach the moon.

As you finally see your floors again, free from the chaos of toys and laundry, we’ll make sure to teach Liam that snack wrappers belong in the trash, not scattered across the carpet. Who knows? Maybe this will help him remember to clean up at home too, and you’ll never have to deal with gum on the bathroom rug again.

Now that you can engage in meaningful conversations with other adults, we’ll gladly handle the barrage of “What’s happening now?” and “I didn’t know we had to do that,” while keeping our calm demeanor intact. After all, we want to spare you from the brink of madness that sometimes comes with reminding Sophia to take her shoes off the kitchen table for the umpteenth time.

Above all, we recognize that while you adore your children, there have been moments this summer when you’ve seriously considered giving the entire concept of summer vacation a hard rethink. We share your love for your kids; after all, who would choose this profession without that passion? But let’s just say we’re all familiar with the edge of chaos that kids can lead us to, and it’s essential to hold onto those feelings of frustration for future reference. Next summer, it’ll be your turn to pen a letter to us, and we hope you’ll remember to send it postmarked to Fiji as a gentle reminder of those delightful days!

Wishing you a fantastic school year ahead!

Warm regards,
Your Teachers
