A Heartfelt Thank You to All the Incredible Dads Embracing Fatherhood

Let’s be honest; there are days when my partner and I barely exchange a word. With two little ones, juggling full-time work, a side hustle, and minimal help with childcare or household chores, life is quite hectic. Yet, despite the chaos, our lives are filled with joy—our two sons bring us more happiness than we ever imagined. Still, the never-ending responsibilities of parenting often leave us little time for ourselves or for each other.

When my first child was placed in my arms eight years ago, the whirlwind of motherhood turned my world upside down. I doubted whether any part of my previous life could survive. However, after a few years of navigating the ups and downs of parenting, I can confidently say that, while it’s incredibly demanding, parenthood has not damaged our marriage. In fact, it has made it stronger.

Of course, it’s not without its imperfections. I have my gripes about my partner (right now, I wish he’d put his phone down more often, take out the trash without prompting, and close the shower curtain so the toilet paper doesn’t end up soaked), and I’m sure he has his frustrations with me (mainly about my tendency to nag!). But when I think about how well we manage this parenting journey together, it becomes clear: we co-parent exceptionally well, and he’s as engaged with our kids as I am. He understands them, connects with them, and he’s always there for them, day or night. By being such a fantastic dad, he also gives me an invaluable gift.

Here’s a little secret—his stellar parenting skills make my heart skip a beat, and yes, they definitely add some spice to our relationship. I know there are many fathers out there who excel at fatherhood just like he does. While being a solid parenting team is crucial, I also recognize that not all dads hit the mark; some struggle to show up in the ways their children and partners need them. I count my blessings every day and feel fortunate.

So, to my partner (and all the amazing dads out there):

Thank you for waking up early on weekends so I can catch up on sleep. This morning, I woke up to find the living room strewn with superhero action figures, with you playing alongside our son—Superman in one hand and a lukewarm cup of coffee in the other. My heart could barely take it.

Thank you for those long nights spent caring for our sick child and for handling the laundry without a single complaint. Honestly, I would have grumbled about it a lot.

Thank you for all the evenings spent rocking our fussy babies up and down the hallway. Your “dad moves” were the ultimate remedy for soothing them (those challenging evenings with newborns were tough!).

Thank you for driving the kids to birthday parties, swim lessons, and doctor visits—activities I sometimes dread. Your willingness to handle those tasks is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for waking up at the crack of dawn to work, just so you can return home early to spend time with our children before bed.

Thank you for never batting an eye when you walk in the door after a long day, only to be met with the chaos of kids crying out for attention.

Thank you for remembering the little things, like how our toddler prefers his pizza cut into rectangles or how our older son loves being tucked in just so.

And thank you, right now, for taking the two grumpy kids to the park so I could write this little love letter to you.

It’s easy to overlook the many great dads out there. I know all too well that some fathers abandon their families or fail to engage meaningfully, but we should take a moment to recognize those who truly show up. These dads are building lasting trust with their children and providing a positive model of manhood.

Moreover, they offer their partners a chance to breathe, to enjoy a quiet moment. They help remind their partners of who they are beyond just “Mommy.” Most importantly, they rekindle the reasons their partners fell in love with them in the first place.
