“She’s Expecting, Not Overweight!” Says the Most Awkward Baby Shower Invitation

What’s one thing that expectant mothers adore? Invitations that poke fun at their weight! I just came across this gem, which was created by a friend using the popular e-invitation platform, Paperless Post.
“SHE’S NOT OVERWEIGHT, SHE’S EXPECTING!”
Phew! For a moment, it seemed like everyone might have thought she was just gaining a few pounds—thankfully, that’s cleared up! Here’s a peek at this invitation:
I can’t say I was shocked to learn it was designed by a man. Checking out his bio, I see he’s the Editor-at-Large for a well-known women’s fashion magazine. Seriously, dude? Is fat-shaming really necessary in baby shower invites? You already have plenty of opportunities to make women feel less than great in your field.
Let’s Discuss the Envelope
Why utilize cute baby booties or bottles when you can instead line it with a measuring tape design? I’m not an expert in fashion, but I can say this is simply unacceptable! Can you imagine a scenario where the host wouldn’t get an earful from the other guests? Who would find this amusing? Is everyone you know slender? Because this is offensive on so many levels. If someone picked this invitation for me, I might just set it ablaze (yes, they offer a paper version too).
I know, I know—“just chill out, right?” But no, I refuse to chill. Women’s bodies are under constant scrutiny, and it’s utterly draining. It’s tiring to see this kind of messaging even in a section of a website that’s supposed to celebrate motherhood.
Let’s strive for better, world!

Summary
The article critiques a poorly designed baby shower invitation that makes light of a pregnant woman’s weight, highlighting the unnecessary body shaming present in society. It emphasizes the importance of celebrating motherhood without resorting to negative stereotypes.
