If Moms Communicated With Each Other Like They Do With Their Kids

Let’s face it, we can be a little absurd. If you don’t believe me, just listen to this: “Excuse me, Sarah, I’m currently talking. You need to wait until I’m finished, and then you can speak, okay?”

Why do we speak to our little ones like this? It’s no wonder they don’t always listen! Sure, showering them with praise for their little wins is adorable, but maybe we’ve unlocked the secret to their epic meltdowns: our own communication style. Can you imagine hearing that all day long? It would make anyone throw a fit!

“Jenna, what are you up to?”
“I was about to pour myself some more wine.”
“Hold on! You still have some in your glass. Finish that first, then you can ask me for more, and I’ll gladly pour it for you, okay?”
“I just—”
“NO ATTITUDE, MISSY!”

It’s comical, isn’t it? Just think if we all talked to each other like this—our poor kids must be thinking they’re living in a sitcom!

In summary, while our way of speaking to kids is often filled with authority and control, it can lead to misunderstandings and frustration. A little humor and a shift in perspective can go a long way in bridging that communication gap.
