I can almost taste the sweet taste of accomplishment. While I may not have experienced the thrill of victory in a traditional sense, the anticipation of potty training my little one feels exhilarating. What does victory taste like? Maybe like chocolate cake or a refreshing drink? Who knows, but I’m eager to embrace this milestone.
My youngest, who is nearly two, is on the brink of transitioning from diapers to big-kid underwear—preferably adorned with superhero designs. And while I’m not one to dream lofty dreams, I’m certainly ready for him to trade in those velcro fastened diapers for the freedom of the toilet. Here are my top five reasons why he’s due for this significant change:
1. His Incredible Size
At just 21 months and weighing in at 39 pounds, my child is a little powerhouse. Picture a toddler version of a giant—imagine trying to change a diaper on a mini-Hagrid! It’s a workout in itself, and I’m ready for the end of this challenge.
2. Curiosity About His Body
Let’s face it: boys are naturally curious about their bodies. My toddler loves to explore, which makes diaper changes a bit of a wrestling match. It’s time for him to learn about privacy in a more appropriate setting.
3. Fascination with Toilets
To my son, toilets are like magical water play areas. He enjoys dropping toys in, causing minor plumbing disasters, and sometimes even attempting to wield the toilet brush. He’s clearly intrigued by the concept of using the toilet, so why not harness that enthusiasm?
4. The Overflowing Diaper Situation
It seems like he’s on a mission to fill every diaper to capacity. No one can realistically expect to have five dirty diapers in a day without needing a break from that routine.
5. His Love for Dance
You can’t twirl around the house, dancing to your favorite tunes unless you’ve got your potty training down. My son loves to groove, but eventually, the need to go will strike—and I’d rather not deal with accidents on the living room floor.
With the holiday season approaching, I can’t help but feel he needs to step up his potty game. After all, who can enjoy a dance party to John Denver and The Muppets if they can’t control their bathroom habits? Well, maybe my 94-year-old grandma can get away with it, but not him!
