Do you ever find yourself questioning your parenting skills? You’re not alone. The online world is flooded with articles that can make any parent feel inadequate: “5 Ways You’re Sabotaging Your Child’s Future” or “An Open Letter to Parents Who Can’t Stop Scrolling While Their Kids Play” or “7 Items in Your Child’s Lunchbox That Could Be Dangerous.” It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, disheartened, and lost in this sea of parenting advice. Feeling inundated with information makes it hard to figure out how your parenting stacks up against that of your friends and strangers alike.

But don’t fret! In just a few moments, you can discover exactly how your parenting compares. This quick quiz will give you the answers you’re looking for. Just be honest when you answer each question, and keep your results to yourself—no cheating! For extra fun, you could always take your results to the park and ask that parent with the impeccably behaved kids for their take on your score. Sounds like a plan!

Let’s dive in!

  1. When you visit the park, how often are you glued to your phone?
    • More than 50% of the time. The park can be dull, and my child’s slide tricks aren’t exactly thrilling. (2 points)
    • Less than 50%. I only check important messages or see how popular my “Look at my amazing parenting skills” post is. (1 point)
    • Not at all. I treasure every second with my kids and rarely use my phone, except to hunt for fresh, organic produce. (0 points)
  2. Do your kids like to climb up slides?
    • Yes, they do it all the time! (2 points)
    • Occasionally, but I make sure to loudly correct them so everyone hears. (1 point)
    • No way! Climbing slides is simply not acceptable. (0 points)
  3. What type of juice do you offer your kids?
    • Whatever I can find, honestly. (2 points)
    • Only 100% fruit juice mixed with water to cut down on sugar. (1 point)
    • Only homemade carrot juice with a splash of lime. (0 points)
  4. How much screen time do you permit your children daily?
    • I have no idea. (2 points)
    • No more than two hours, mostly educational stuff. (1 point)
    • None at all; we practice mindfulness 24/7. (0 points)
  5. How would you describe your family’s sleeping arrangements?
    • It’s a free-for-all, like a pack of cats after dark! (2 points)
    • Co-sleeping is allowed on weekends. (1 point)
    • Everyone has their own bed, and we stick to a strict 9:30 bedtime. (0 points)
  6. What kind of music do your kids listen to?
    • My 5-year-old can sing all the words to “Hotline Bling.” (2 points)
    • Only kid-friendly songs and Adele. (1 point)
    • Only classical music and Coldplay. (0 points)
  7. What’s on the dinner menu for your 4-year-old tonight?
    • Character-shaped mac and cheese, yogurt, and a grape. (2 points)
    • Whatever I’m having. (1 point)
    • Whatever my chef has prepared with fresh, local ingredients. (0 points)
  8. If your child drops food, how long before it’s still edible?
    • As long as it’s not eaten by a dog or squirrel, it’s good! (2 points)
    • 5-Second Rule, obviously. (1 point)
    • My child doesn’t drop food. (0 points)
  9. What parenting style do you adhere to?
    • What do you mean by “parenting style”? (2 points)
    • Just trying to survive! (1 point)
    • Nurturing-Authoritative-Disciplinarian-Montessori-Tiger Approach. (0 points)
  10. How often do you find yourself comparing to other parents?
    • Never! (10 points)
    • Just occasionally, to keep myself motivated. (1 point)
    • Other parents look up to me. (0 points)

Scoring

  • 15+: Kudos! You’re rocking this parenting gig and likely the envy of other parents!
  • 5 to 14: Good job! You’re not the worst parent out there, but there’s room for improvement. Maybe set aside some funds for future therapy sessions!
  • < 5: Ouch. It seems you have a bit of work to do. Just remember, everybody has off days!
