Dear little Oliver,
Breastfeeding can be quite the rollercoaster, can’t it? I often find myself torn. I despise those midnight feedings when I’ve just drifted off to sleep, only to be jolted awake by your little cries. The 2 a.m. wake-ups are even worse, as I glance over to see your dad peacefully dreaming while I’m on nursing duty again. And let’s not even talk about those sleepy 4 a.m. sessions when you’re too lazy to latch properly, and it results in an unintentional bite!
By 6 a.m., the clock is glaring at me, reminding me that I need to rise soon, even though I feel like I haven’t slept at all. The chaos continues at 8:30 a.m. when I’m rushing to drop off your sister, a tangle of hair and mismatched socks because I was desperate for just a few more minutes of sleep that you weren’t willing to grant me.
The online comments can be frustrating too; it’s hard to ignore those who think breastfeeding is somehow shameful. Then there are the moments when I’m nursing you in public, and I can see other parents hastily ushering their kids away, as if witnessing you feeding isn’t the most natural thing in the world.
But let’s not forget the bright side. I absolutely adore the convenience and cost-effectiveness of breastfeeding. It’s heartwarming to see how it keeps you healthy and content. And for those who might not approve of my public nursing, I take comfort in knowing that I have the legal right to do so, even on days when I’m feeling less than enthusiastic about it. Heaven help anyone who might approach my exhausted self and suggest I move!
With all my love,
The human attached to the breasts you cherish
