In a quest to celebrate her 40th birthday in style, a woman named Emily rallied a group of friends, including the talented photographer, Zoe Mitchell. Inspired by their Facebook group “The Real Housewives of Maplewood,” Emily proposed the idea of an adult cake smash, and Zoe was on board immediately. “I couldn’t resist. This was going to be legendary!” Zoe exclaimed.
The ladies planned a delightful gathering adorned with sparkling gold, white, and pink balloons, a mouthwatering cake, and bubbly pink champagne. Emily donned an ensemble that screamed fun, complete with a crown, tutu, and glittering shoes. “Emily’s personality is vibrant, so I knew this would be a blast! Every detail—from the outfit to the cake—was well thought out,” Zoe explained.
One of the standout props was a chalkboard sign reading “Emily Aged To Perfection.” “It was a total surprise for Emily—another friend put it together without her knowing!” Zoe shared. The board also featured quirky quotes, including, “My weight is none of your business,” alongside her favorites like reality TV, tacos, and cocktails. We also discovered that she has “the heart of a lion and the mouth of a sailor.”
Zoe, with a wealth of experience shooting baby cake smashes, found that directing an adult was easier than expected. “Having worked with toddlers definitely helped! I aimed to replicate that carefree joy of letting someone dive into a cake,” she said.
With so many fun elements, the photoshoot was a riot. “I hadn’t laughed that hard in forever,” Zoe admitted. Her favorite shot was a cheeky moment where Emily playfully flipped the bird while covered in cake. “It just felt right,” Zoe chuckled. “Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one favorite part, but the laughter and planning that went into this was incredible!”
And, of course, after all their hard work, the ladies indulged in the cake and champagne. “We finished off the bottle and devoured chunks of cake with our hands—so classy!”
