Motherhood is an incredible journey filled with love, challenges, exhaustion, and joy. It’s a whirlwind of experiences that can be both uplifting and overwhelming. While every mother’s journey is unique, there are some universal truths that many can relate to. If you’re an experienced mom, these may resonate with you. If you’re about to embark on this adventure, consider this your friendly heads-up.
- As much as you adore your kids, there will be moments when they drive you absolutely bonkers.
- By the time you finally get everyone ready for dinner, yours will be cold while they’ve already polished theirs off.
- Your sense of personal dignity and privacy will vanish; you might even recall that time you accidentally exposed yourself during childbirth.
- Any peace and quiet will likely come during screen time, which will leave you feeling guilty for letting them watch.
- If you invite glitter into your home, prepare for a lifelong commitment to it. You’ll find it on yourself or your kids at all times.
- Laundry is a never-ending cycle; there will always be more to wash.
- Your home will never be spotless all at once; some rooms will always be in a state of chaos.
- Friendships may fade, but you’ll also forge new ones. If you’re shy, you’ll find common ground with strangers thanks to parenting topics.
- Any extra cash you have will be quickly absorbed by your kids. Enjoy your wardrobe; I’m still wearing clothes from college!
- Sleeping in is a luxury of the past. Say hello to 6 a.m. wake-ups!
- No matter how incredible your partner is, you will always feel like you’re doing more. Acceptance of this will bring you peace.
- Potty training doesn’t mean you’re done with diaper duties; that might linger until they’re 5 or 6!
- Each day will feel like a repeat of the last: eat, sleep, mom, repeat.
- You might develop an aversion to hearing your name, along with “why,” “no,” and “snack.”
- You will morph into your mother, saying things like, “If you wish to talk, come find me,” which used to annoy you as a child.
- Countless hours will go into preparing meals, only to see them end up in the trash.
- You’ll find yourself holding onto random items and questioning how they got there.
- You’ll catch yourself saying, “Where does the time go?” because it truly does fly.
- At some point, you’ll look at your 5-year-old and struggle to remember their baby days. Capture every moment!
- You will yell. It’s inevitable, and afterward, you’ll likely feel guilty.
- You’ll experience a mix of emotions: feeling accomplished, like a failure, wanting to escape, yet wanting to hold them tight—all in one day.
- You’ll tackle questions with no clear answers, like “Why is that a truck?” or “When did the air begin?”
- Your capacity for love will expand, but so will your worries.
- Be prepared for unexpected, tough conversations, like when your child asks about death. I got this question while merging onto a highway!
- You’ll develop a deep appreciation for both coffee and wine.
- You’ll lecture your kids about sugar, then devour their Halloween stash once they’re in bed. Don’t feel guilty; your parents probably did the same!
- Experiencing a hangover while watching kids is pure torture, and you’ll soon realize that a few hours of fun isn’t worth it.
- Public meltdowns are unavoidable. Smile and own it!
- You’ll discover boogers in the most unexpected places.
- At some point, you’ll have to catch vomit in your bare hands. Spoiler alert: it won’t be your own.
