Little Girl Hosts a Heartwarming Tea Party for the Officer Who Saved Her Life
A delightful tea party was recently organized by a little girl to honor the police officer who rescued her from a life-threatening situation last year. The charming event featured two-year-old Lily and Officer Tom Bennett of the Rowlett Police Department in Texas, who came together to celebrate their unique friendship. Their story began last summer when Lily was playing in the pool at home with her family, as reported by Good Morning America.
Lily’s mother, Sarah, noticed something alarming when her daughter’s lips started to turn blue. “She went completely limp—it was terrifying. I looked into her eyes, and she seemed so far away,” Sarah recalled. Unbeknownst to them, Lily had accidentally swallowed a penny, prompting her dad to call for help. Although Officer Bennett was on his lunch break, he was nearby and quickly responded to the emergency. His body camera footage revealed that he managed to save Lily’s life in just 27 seconds.
“I heard his siren and ran outside. He took Lily from me and began to pry her mouth open,” Sarah explained. “He did a finger sweep, and when the penny finally fell out, we heard her cough and cry— it was the most beautiful sound.” Officer Bennett described that moment as the happiest he has ever experienced. Since that day, the two have formed a beautiful friendship and decided to commemorate their bond with a tea party.
“I couldn’t resist the opportunity because I knew it would mean so much to both Sarah and Lily,” Officer Bennett shared. As a father of two boys, he cherished the chance to engage in this kind of special activity with a little girl. The families have grown close, celebrating birthdays and holidays together. “Even after a year, I can’t find the words to express my gratitude,” Sarah said of Officer Bennett.
