A sports medicine doctor from Oklahoma City, Jessica Taylor, recently faced a unique challenge. With her husband away and childcare arrangements for her three-year-old falling through, she decided to take an unconventional approach—she strapped her toddler to her back and headed to work. Oh, and did we mention she’s pregnant?
Jessica shared a snapshot of herself working during a high school football game with her child on her back in a Facebook group for physician moms. The image quickly garnered attention online, and for good reason. “I’m 35 weeks pregnant, my husband is out of town, and I have a game to cover!” she explained on her page.
While most of us might have leaned towards a cozy day at home using the classic “I’m pregnant and my babysitter bailed” excuse, Jessica chose to rise to the occasion. “I thought this group would appreciate a visual representation of our daily lives as moms,” she shared. The outpouring of support and encouragement from her peers has been overwhelming.
“I believe it’s possible to juggle a successful career and a fulfilling personal life, but it certainly requires a great deal of effort and creativity,” she added. This situation exemplifies the “hard work” she mentioned.
“I’ve faced skepticism from others regarding my ability to balance motherhood and my medical career,” Jessica told Home Insemination Kit. “For me, it’s all about pushing through and demonstrating that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to.”
When asked if she worried about potential criticism for bringing her child to work, Jessica stated, “I focus on my responsibilities—both at work and as a mom. It was essential that both roles were fulfilled effectively.”
“Concern about naysayers isn’t my priority. I’m there to support my team while ensuring my daughter’s safety,” she explained. “Fortunately, I’m in a supportive environment that understands my dual roles, which is why I thrive in Oklahoma.”
“It truly takes a strong network of people to make this work,” Jessica concluded. With unexpected childcare issues, she navigated her responsibilities seamlessly, demonstrating that with the right support system, moms can do it all.
Moms have been mastering multitasking since the dawn of time.
