In a heartwarming initiative, college students transform into beloved Disney princesses to bring joy to children battling serious illnesses in hospitals. This enchanting project, called “A Moment of Magic,” was founded by two students, Emily Carter and Jessica Lee, from The College of Mount Saint Vincent. Their mission is to turn challenging days into magical experiences for kids.
The inspiration struck Emily after watching the animated classic Frozen, where she felt a deep connection to the character of Elsa. “I realized I resembled Elsa a bit, and it sparked an idea combining my love for children and my passion for making a difference,” she shared. After reaching out to her friend Jessica, who eagerly joined the cause, the duo set out to make their vision a reality.
To kickstart their nonprofit, they utilized GoFundMe, successfully raising around $2,000 to cover the costs of costumes, wigs, and other essential materials. With approximately 40 volunteers, A Moment of Magic has spread its cheer across 12 states. For those hospitals they cannot physically visit, they utilize technology to connect with children through Skype or FaceTime.
In one of the heartwarming videos, Emily, dressed as Elsa, opened up about her nerves before each hospital visit. “I always worry if I’m pretty enough, smart enough, or thin enough, but it’s the kids’ joy that gives me confidence,” she expressed. Despite their busy college lives, Emily and Jessica are fueled by a cause far greater than themselves. “I believe in the power of small acts to create significant change, and this project is a perfect example,” Jessica remarked.
