Tales from the Insemination Community: I’m In Support

As a mother of a Latino boy who was recently told by a peer that he might be sent back to Guatemala if Trump were elected (not intended as cruelty, but perhaps that’s even worse). As a mother of a child who will soon transition from boyhood to manhood, an immigrant at that. As a mother who often finds her son to be the only child of color in the room.

Reflecting on my father’s unwavering support for HRC before he passed away last summer, I also think of my mother, who campaigned for local office when I was just a baby, worked full-time out of passion, and instilled in me the belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to.

I’m married to a wonderful man who dedicated six months to caring for our son while I worked tirelessly to support our family. He’s attended every birthday party, school meeting, and sports event throughout the past decade. He also takes charge of dinner every evening for all of us.

I remember my first experience of being forced down in an empty room at a gathering, enduring an unwanted kiss that was anything but consensual. I also recall the harassment I faced in college while advocating for mandatory rape education for fraternities after a tragic incident in my dorm.

Today, I cast my vote. I did it for my father, my mother, my husband, my son, and his future. I voted for the girl in my dorm who deserved better, for our planet, and for all of us. #ImInSupport
