During this season of gratitude, it seems some individuals have decided to embrace their intolerance, as highlighted by the unfortunate #AnywhereButTARGET movement. Those still upset over Target’s earlier announcement, which allows customers and employees to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity, are opting to shop elsewhere this festive season. But hey, more parking spaces and aisleways free from negativity for us!
The #AnywhereButTARGET boycott is driven by a conservative watchdog group called 2nd Vote, which aims to inform individuals about where not to spend their money while simultaneously guiding those with kindness in their hearts to support more inclusive businesses. After reading this, you might find yourself eager to spend your entire paycheck at Target this holiday season.
From 2nd Vote:
“Are you tired of the liberal agenda infringing upon our values and safety in schools and workplaces? This Christmas, we’re sending a message to one of the main corporate backers of the liberal LGBT agenda. Join us in shopping #AnywhereButTARGET because we don’t believe conservatives should fund Target’s harmful social agenda.”
Because nothing quite embodies “decency” like attempting to further marginalize an already vulnerable group. Surely that’s what the spirit of the season is all about, right?
Much has been said about the supposed dangers of Target’s inclusive policies. You might have heard about the supposed surge in sexual assaults in Target bathrooms since this policy was enacted. However, it’s crucial to clarify – there is no epidemic of men disguising themselves as women to attack anyone in these spaces; such fears are based on unfounded assumptions that do not align with actual data regarding sexual offenses. In fact, most child sexual abuse cases involve someone the child knows personally, not strangers in public bathrooms.
The conversation surrounding the First Amendment has also emerged, with some claiming that allowing individuals to use facilities according to their gender identity is somehow radical. Yet, this only means we can enjoy our holiday shopping without encountering the negativity of those who propagate these harmful ideas. While they may wander through crowded malls, we can leisurely browse our favorite store and celebrate our shared commitment to treating everyone with respect and dignity. Just when we thought our affection for Target couldn’t grow any more, they continue to uphold their policy of inclusivity.
Happy Holidays to those who choose acceptance! We’ll be celebrating with delightful holiday finds like cute throw pillows and unique stocking stuffers.
