The Bachelor Premiere Recap: A Night of Red Dresses and a Camel Encounter

It’s official: Nick Viall is back as the new Bachelor, and he’s ready to find love—again! Having made more appearances on various Bachelor franchises than anyone else (and still single), Nick’s quest for romance continues. Or is he just promoting an Audi? Who knows!

The premiere kicks off with a relatable intro where ABC attempts to convince us that Nick is not the stereotypical bad guy. We see a grocery store employee swooning over him and a sweet moment with his sister. Then, Nick declares he’s here to bring America a “happy ending.” Cue the cringes. “Being in love is literally the greatest feeling you can feel,” he claims, which is rich coming from someone who seems to fall for every woman he meets. This time, however, he won’t be competing for love, and let’s just say he’s more than a little nervous.

Since the show is a hefty two hours long, we need to fill in the gaps before the women step out of their limos. Enter the former Bachelors—Ben, Chris, and Sean. Sean just welcomed a baby, and honestly, it’s all a bit snooze-worthy. Chris is still in the middle of nowhere, and Ben is dishing out love advice while pretending he and Lauren are still living their fairytale. Yet, we know better. Thanks for the memories, guys.

As the introductions finally roll in, we meet a cast of colorful characters: a lawyer, a nail salon owner, a teacher, a cat enthusiast, a Bible-loving ATV rider, and even a former one-night stand. Honestly, the variety is overwhelming! But one thing is clear—most of the women are significantly younger than Nick, who is 36.

The entrances are more outrageous than ever. One woman appears in a canary yellow dress while dancing behind a matching fan, another tells him that her friends think he’s a “complete piece of shit,” and yet another brings along Neil Lane to showcase her dream wedding ring. The awkwardness escalates with a woman who insists on a trust fall and another who emerges from a camel, cheekily declaring, “I hear you like a good hump, and so do I.” Kill me now. Where are these women’s friends when they need a little reality check?

After a commercial break (thank goodness!), the next group of women arrives, and thankfully, they seem a tad older. One brings maple syrup, while another hilariously claims she has “balls” as she pulls out a piercing from her nose. There’s even a girl in a shark costume (who thinks it’s a dolphin) and a woman who offers Nick a “beard massage.” The absurdity is off the charts.

When Nick finally enters the room, the women go wild, and he struggles to deliver a motivational speech about empowerment—it takes three attempts to get through it without stumbling. As conversations commence, Rachel, the lawyer, stands out as smart and charming, while “yellow fan girl” keeps insisting on dancing. Then there’s Corrine, who shows up with a bag of “tokens” and monopolizes Nick’s time, leaving other contestants feeling frustrated.

As tension rises, a mini-breakdown ensues with one woman crying because she can’t get a moment with Nick. Meanwhile, the shark girl (actually named Alexis) does dolphin calls in the pool, which is just as bizarre as it sounds.

Eventually, Nick gets some one-on-one time with Liz, the one-night stand, and it turns out he does remember their encounter. How awkward!

In the end, Nick awards the first impression rose to Rachel, leaving the other women stunned. Rose distribution follows, with Corrine snagging one, which makes viewers sigh in disappointment. The night concludes with Liz receiving the last rose, prompting a mix of emotional farewells from those who didn’t make the cut.

Next week promises even more drama, and I’m both excited and ashamed to tune in again. But let’s be real, Corrine is the one I’m looking forward to disliking the most.
