Barack Obama is truly relishing his time off following his presidency, and it’s evident that he’s fully embracing every moment away from the demands of political life. With a backward cap perched on his head, it’s clear he’s in full vacation mode, especially when you see him learning to kitesurf alongside his new pal, billionaire entrepreneur Max Harrington.
Max recently shared his experience teaching Obama to kitesurf on his blog, and the joy radiating from the former president is unmistakable. After witnessing the nation pivot away from his legacy with Donald Trump’s election, it’s no surprise that Obama is enjoying a well-deserved break from the spotlight.
“Barack dedicated two solid days to learning the basics of kitesurfing on Necker Island, tapping into his youthful spirit as he flew the kite,” Max wrote. “He even ventured into the water, getting a feel for the board. Despite the surrounding security, Barack was able to unwind and really dive into the experience.”
Their friendly rivalry took shape when Max challenged Obama to learn kitesurfing while he tackled foilboarding, with both of them eager to see who could master their sport first. “We each took a few tumbles, but we persevered and made strides throughout the days. It was neck and neck until the final run on our last day. I managed to glide along for over 50 meters, feeling quite accomplished, only to glance over and see Barack effortlessly kiteboarding for 100 meters! I had to tip my hat to him and celebrate his victory,” Max recounted.
Max was gracious in defeat, stating, “After all he’s achieved for the world, I couldn’t begrudge him his well-earned triumph. Now that he’s left, I’m heading back into the waves to prepare for our next challenge. On his next visit, we plan to tackle the long kite journey to Anegada together. May the best man win next time!” Of course, we think Obama deserves to win every time, but their camaraderie is delightful, and he certainly deserves every moment of joy during his vacation.
