What began as a casual TV viewing quickly turned into a life-changing adventure.
“I was watching a travel show featuring the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain,” shared Noah Parker. “My heart immediately said, ‘You need to experience this journey.’” But the roots of this remarkable friendship run deeper than that.
Noah and his best friend, Alex Johnson, were born just 36 hours apart and have been inseparable ever since. Their bond remained unbroken even when, at the age of 16, Noah began to experience unexplained muscle weakness. After being diagnosed with Multifocal Acquired Motor Axonopathy, a progressive condition akin to ALS, their friendship proved resilient. As Noah lost more control over his muscles and transitioned to a wheelchair, Alex remained steadfastly by his side.
“Noah handled his challenges with such grace; it inspired me to stay strong,” Alex reflected. “However, when the disease affected his hands, it was a difficult reality to confront.”
By the time Noah discovered the Camino, he was already using a wheelchair. He knew exactly what he wanted to do—and who he wanted to accompany him.
“This friendship is a true gift. We’ve tackled everything together, so why not take on one more grand adventure?” Alex said. “There was no other answer in my mind than yes, I’ll support you.”
Two years later, the duo set off on their journey, with Noah in a specialized three-wheeled wheelchair. They traversed breathtaking landscapes, including mountains and expansive Spanish deserts. Along the way, they encountered fellow travelers from 27 countries who lent a helping hand, pushing and pulling Noah’s wheelchair through challenging terrains.
“The kindness of strangers restored my faith in humanity,” Noah expressed. “It was an awe-inspiring experience.”
After 34 days, they completed the 500-mile trek. Now, they are excited to share their inspiring journey through a documentary titled “I’ll Support You.” Their goal is to spread the message of love and community that they encountered throughout their adventure.
“The people who helped us up those mountains gave so much,” Alex noted. “I want that to serve as a reminder of how we should live. We must love everyone we meet, no matter their journey.”
Noah added, “Your limitations don’t define you; it’s your actions in spite of them that truly matter.”
