In my home, toys that mimic kitchen or household activities have become all the rage. While my kids aren’t exactly eager to help with actual chores, they love to pretend to sweep and wash dishes until they’ve cleared out every imaginary speck of dirt from their play world. Meanwhile, the real dirt in our home remains plentiful.
Since we unboxed this delightful coffee play set, it has been an absolute favorite. I personally don’t drink coffee (I genuinely wish I could enjoy it), and my little ones have only seen a coffee shop from afar—the Starbucks inside our local Target. They probably don’t even realize that coffee is brewed there; all they seem to notice are the cake pops.
However, as soon as they began playing with this set, they instantly grasped its concept. They dive headfirst into their “coffee shop” scenarios, with my son often worrying about a mocha pod rolling under the couch. He’s on a mission to prepare a large iced mocha for their dad before he returns home from work.
The play set is utterly adorable, featuring miniature coffee pods designed for a Keurig-style coffee maker, along with ice cubes, sugar, and cream. There’s even a spoon for stirring in the mugs and a sturdy card displaying all the menu options—perfect for aspiring little baristas. I particularly appreciate that all the components are made from solid wood. They feel durable, which is a relief when my daughter sends a sugar packet flying across the room.
Is this toy subtly introducing my kids to coffee culture? Possibly. But I’m pretty sure that the taste of coffee—which I find quite unappealing—will be enough to deter them from actually trying it.
This charming addition to any kitchen play set makes for a thoughtful gift. Consider giving it to the child of your sleep-deprived mom friend (let’s be honest, there are plenty of them!) on their next birthday, as a lighthearted nod to her daily struggle. While they play, she might just get the chance to enjoy her own coffee while it’s still hot. In summary, this delightful toy not only sparks imaginative play but might also provide some much-needed moments of warmth for parents who often have cold coffee in hand.
