When a mom’s birth announcement takes an unexpected turn, it serves as a funny reminder that life doesn’t always follow the script we write.
Meet Jenna Smith, a resident of Alabama, who had her IUD inserted last August. Fast forward to December, and she was in for a shock when she discovered she was pregnant. “I was terrified at first; I thought surely this wouldn’t happen to me, especially with the IUD,” she shared. “I figured I was only a few weeks along, but the ultrasound revealed I was already 18 weeks into my pregnancy!”
Despite the initial fear, Jenna’s ultrasound showed that her IUD had mysteriously migrated, still nestled safely behind the placenta. When her baby boy, Oliver, made his grand entrance via C-section, the doctor retrieved the wandering IUD as well. For her birth announcement, Jenna playfully posed Oliver with the IUD in his tiny hand, captioning the photo with the hashtag “#IUDadventure.”
Although Oliver wasn’t part of their original plan, Jenna and her partner embraced their new addition wholeheartedly. “He was absolutely meant to be,” she exclaimed. “His due date was supposed to be May 4th, and even the doctor joked, ‘The force was strong with this one.’”
Jenna noted, “Even though this wasn’t in our plans, my family and I feel so blessed.” However, she has taken measures to ensure they won’t experience another surprise like this again. After Oliver’s birth, she decided to remove one of her Fallopian tubes, effectively closing the door on any future IUD mishaps.
