Optimism isn’t my strong suit; I don’t exactly search for happiness in every corner. I often regard overly cheerful places like “Life Is Good” with a reluctant eye-roll, especially on a dreary Wednesday. I tend to keep my expectations low, allowing myself to be pleasantly surprised by average outcomes. Despite this, I do love to dance—even if it’s not very graceful!

Back in elementary school, I once lip-synched to Madonna’s “Like A Prayer,” flaunting my cartwheels in a black outfit, complete with a regrettable perm and oversized glasses. Those were the days, and I’ve been yearning for that adrenaline rush ever since, even if I’m still largely unknown at 35.

So, in these unsettling times, the urge to dance feels more important than ever. When I tell my friends that I just want to dance, I’m only half-joking. I long to perform the Cabbage Patch or the Hammer—definitely not the dab or any synchronized line dance. The Cupid Shuffle? Nah, I avoided college math to keep that kind of nonsense off the dance floor!

After the election results left me frustrated and bewildered, I turned to music for solace. I’ve dubbed my nightly dance sessions “The ResistDANCE.” Just think about it: can you really stay angry while listening to ‘90s ska? Or when you hear Sisqó belting out “thong-thong-thong-thong-thong”? The first notes of any Spice Girls song can instantly lift your spirits!

My evenings have turned into a mini Richard Simmons workout as I groove to upbeat tracks that won’t drag me down. And because I love sharing joy, I’m excited to invite you to join this resistDANCE.
