10 Things That Have Me Shaking My Head and Wondering What the Heck is Going On

Ah, the world we live in! It’s a bizarre blend of wild wonders and head-scratching absurdities. I mean, who would have thought we could buy entire bags of only the cherry-flavored candy, or that mommy-and-me mermaid swim classes would be a thing? We’re living in an era where goat yoga exists and unicorn everything is a legitimate trend. What a time to be alive, right?

But in the midst of these quirky delights, there’s a lot happening that leaves me utterly baffled. I usually pride myself on being easygoing and drama-free, but sometimes you just have to throw your hands up and say, “What on earth is happening?” Here are a few of the things that currently make me go SMDH, say WTF, and unleash a flurry of expletives.

1. Fashion Gone Wild

Let’s just say, the fashion world is on another planet. I’ve never been a trendsetter, but I can’t help but raise an eyebrow at what’s being paraded down the runways. Nordstrom, once my favorite stop for stylish finds, has been serving up some serious head-scratchers. Clear-knee jeans? $1,200 sock sandals? And let’s not forget those pretentious $425 jeans with faux mud splatters. Really, Nordstrom? Get it together!

2. The State of HGTV

I love a good home renovation show—who doesn’t enjoy watching a disaster become a masterpiece? However, HGTV’s recent offerings have me wondering if they’ve lost the plot. Families searching for tiny houses on wheels or couples who sell organic dog treats looking for beachside properties for nearly a million dollars? Joanna Gaines is now selling $90 throw pillows! Come on, HGTV, you’re better than this!

3. Maddening Nonsense Everywhere

It feels like the world is overflowing with absurdity. I try to stay positive, but the news is a constant reminder of how chaotic things have gotten. From toxic comment sections online to the pervasive spread of misinformation and self-promoting social media posts, it’s hard to maintain my happy bubble. Seriously, has the world gone bonkers?

4. Misguided Statements

The phrase “All Lives Matter” needs to go. If you don’t understand why, please take a moment to educate yourself. Until everyone can walk freely without fear—especially people of color—it’s clear that some lives are prioritized over others, and that’s just wrong.

5. Isms of All Kinds

In this day and age, racism, sexism, and xenophobia should be relics of the past. Let’s not even entertain any justifications for these outdated beliefs; they have no place in our society.

6. Bizarre Kid Trends

What is the deal with bottle flipping and slime-making? I’ve had it up to here with the endless mess that comes with these trends. And while I admit that fidget spinners are somewhat calming, the chaos of it all can be overwhelming.

7. Commenters Who Don’t Read

If your comment starts with “I didn’t read the article, but…” do us all a favor and rethink your approach. It’s frustrating to see people jump in without understanding the context. Let’s all chant together: “Read before you comment!”

8. The Current Administration

No need for further elaboration here. You know what I mean.

9. Liars and Fake People

My mom always said to be honest, and I’m all for it. I have zero tolerance for deceit and insincerity. If you’re putting on a façade, I can smell it a mile away, and I want nothing to do with it.

10. Pearl Clutchers

I just don’t get how some people navigate the wild ride of parenting without throwing around a few choice words. Your choice of language is your own, but please don’t scold me for expressing my frustrations. I’m an adult, thank you very much.

Sometimes, a solid “What the heck” or “Forget this” is exactly what we need to cope with the madness around us. It’s all part of maintaining our sanity in these trying times.
