Photographer Ingeniously Includes Deployed Dad in Maternity Photoshoot
It’s a tough reality for military spouses, especially when expectant mothers find themselves alone while their partners are stationed thousands of miles away. However, through the magic of digital editing, one photographer has found a heartwarming way to bridge that gap.
When Sarah reached out to Emma Johnson of Emma Johnson Photography for a maternity photoshoot, she knew her husband, Jake, would be unable to join them due to his deployment. Aware of this challenge, Emma was determined to find a creative solution to incorporate Jake into the shoot.
“Sarah booked me for a full ‘bump to baby’ package, including maternity, birth, and newborn sessions,” Emma explained. “Since Jake was deployed at the time, we brainstormed ways to symbolize his presence.”
As Sarah expressed her feelings of sadness over Jake’s absence, Emma took initiative. “We had Jake pose for some pictures in his location, and Sarah sent those over to me. I then blended the images together, showcasing the couple’s love despite the 7,000 miles separating them—Jake is stationed in Italy.”
The outcome was nothing short of breathtaking. Emma shared that Sarah and Jake were overjoyed with the results. “They were incredibly thankful for the images. Their family was emotional, and Sarah mentioned that her phone buzzed nonstop with relatives calling to express how touched they were by the photo.”
What a beautiful way for Sarah and Jake to connect during such an important time! Their baby, Lily, was born on the 13th, and remarkably, Jake made it home just in time. Currently, little Lily is in the NICU due to some breathing complications, but the family remains hopeful. “We’re praying she can come home to Sarah before Jake’s next deployment. We also look forward to capturing newborn photos with him once she’s stable,” Emma added.
Emma’s experience with this maternity shoot has only reaffirmed her passion for photography. Yet her aspirations extend beyond just creating viral content. “I hope that when people view these photos, they take a moment to appreciate our service members and feel the love radiating from the images. Even when separated by thousands of miles, Jake’s love for Sarah and their newborn daughter is truly remarkable. The anticipation was absolutely worth it!”
