In a world increasingly marked by rising racism and nationalism, some children are stepping up to challenge hate with courage and positivity. During a recent far-right rally in the Czech Republic, a group of Scouts and Guides took a stand against extremist views. Among them was a young girl named Emma, whose photo has gone viral for capturing her engaged in a spirited discussion with a Neo-Nazi protester.
Captured by local photographer Jan Novak, the image was shared on the World Organization of the Scout Movement’s Facebook page with a heartfelt message: “Emma, a Scout from Junák – český skaut, stands up to a supporter of extreme right groups in Brno (#CzechRepublic). People from all backgrounds, including #Scouts, gathered to promote values of diversity, peace, and understanding, striving to create a better world!”
The photo also showcased a sign Emma held that read, “We will raise your children,” a motto embraced by the Scouts and Guides of the Czech Republic. Local Scout leader, Anna Horak, elaborated on their peaceful protest efforts in a Facebook post, stating, “A far-right march was taking place, so many people showed up to protest joyfully — dancing and painting. Eventually, more participants joined with drums and other instruments.”
She further explained, “The essence of our protest was to celebrate May Day, a day known for love and spring. The message was clear: ‘we are tired of your hate and pessimism.’ This resonates deeply with us in the scouting movement, regardless of our political beliefs.” It’s a sentiment that many can connect with.
