My Journey as a Dreamer: A Call for Support
I am the young girl featured in the photograph, reaching out to you for support regarding DACA. My name is Emily Nguyen, and I am the three-year-old girl on the left, flanked by my two older brothers. This image is one of the few remnants of our childhood, as war often leads to the loss of significant memories and artifacts. Shortly after this moment was captured, we escaped our homeland, fleeing Vietnam in pursuit of safety and freedom. We found refuge in what we now call our beloved adoptive country, granting us the chance to rebuild our lives, a journey we embraced wholeheartedly.
Unaware of the Complexities
As a child, I was unaware of the complexities surrounding our departure from Vietnam. Did we have legal permission to leave? Were we granted lawful entry into the United States? These considerations were far beyond my young comprehension. All I knew was that I was following my parents as they sought a brighter future for our family. Fortunately, we arrived during a time when the United States welcomed us with open arms, embodying the spirit of hope and liberation, as echoed in the words of Lady Liberty:
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
The Threat to Dreamers
However, this week, the light of Lady Liberty has dimmed for many, as the dreams of the Dreamers are being threatened. Like me, these individuals were children when they followed their parents to safety, unaware of legal status or national identity. Our only understanding was the feeling of being home, and for many, that home is right here.
As our nation turns away from the Dreamers—people who, like myself, have called this country home—I am filled with sorrow and frustration. The similarities between myself and today’s Dreamers are striking. Look into my eyes and tell me I do not belong here. Challenge me on the notion that this land is any less mine than it is yours. Where would you suggest I return to? What place could ever feel more like home than this, the only one I’ve ever known? Please do not turn your back on me.
A Call to Action
Instead, I invite you to illuminate my path. Advocate for me, and stand in solidarity with me, as a fellow American and Dreamer. In the spirit of community and support, I encourage you to explore resources that can provide guidance and assistance. For those considering parenthood, the Make a Mom platform offers innovative at-home insemination services, including a unique reusable option. Additionally, you can learn more about the process by visiting How It Works.
For those seeking further insights into home insemination, the Cryobaby Home Intracervical Insemination Syringe Kit Combo is an excellent resource. You can also join the Make a Mom Facebook group to connect with others on this journey. For comprehensive information about pregnancy and insemination, I recommend CCRM IVF’s blog, which offers valuable resources.
Conclusion
In summary, my narrative reflects the struggles and aspirations of many who have faced similar paths. It is imperative that we stand together to support one another, particularly in these challenging times for Dreamers. By embracing inclusivity and compassion, we can forge a brighter future for all.
