Here’s Some Advertising That Finally Gets It Right

When it comes to athletic wear, Kate Hudson’s Fabletics line is doing something that feels like a breath of fresh air. As a woman who typically wears a size 14 to 16, I can’t express how invigorating it is to see a brand finally include someone like me in their campaigns.

Fabletics embraces a variety of body sizes, and guess what? The world hasn’t ended! It’s a miracle! Spoiler alert: women with curves enjoy spandex too. Shocking, I know! We need stylish workout gear, cozy loungewear, and cute outfits that allow us to move freely.

With sizes ranging from 0 to 24, some of their marketing truly stands out. Look at these lovely ladies! They’re all hanging out together, just like my fabulous friends do with me! It’s almost like I’m not confined to my home, buried under a pile of old clothes. Yes, I actually wear real outfits and go out!

Namaste, everyone! Yes, women over a size 6 do yoga, too! And check out those two girls in the ad. They have completely different body types and still manage to lean on each other while gazing dreamily into the distance for their photoshoot.

The bottom line? Inclusivity in advertising is essential. It looks great and reflects the diverse customer base that includes women over a size 8. It’s refreshing to see Fabletics get it right, but there’s still room for improvement on their website. They have a “Plus” section that looks like this:

The “Plus Shop” only sports one plus-size model in its banner. Here’s a hot take: women in larger sizes don’t require a separate section to find their clothes. A size 16 is still just a size 16, no need for labels! I can navigate a drop-down menu all by myself, thank you very much.

Why not mix different body shapes and sizes together? Just have women of all sizes model the clothes, including those who are “plus size”? If the concern is that thin women won’t know how the outfit looks, welcome to our reality!

When we’re not represented, it’s like we don’t exist. Designers, stop erasing us!
