In a delightful twist for fans of animated films, the beloved characters from the Trolls franchise are making a return to television with an exciting holiday special. You may find yourself unable to resist the charm of Trolls, especially when your kids eagerly pull it up on their tablets. I must admit, I still crank up the volume whenever “Can’t Stop the Feeling” plays on the radio. Although the sequel, Trolls 2, isn’t scheduled for release until 2020 (how frustrating!), DreamWorks has generously provided us with Trolls Holiday, a 30-minute animated special set to premiere in primetime this week. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake are back to reprise their roles as the adorable duo, Poppy and Branch.
Engaging Storyline
The storyline promises to be engaging. According to NBC’s press release, “With the Bergens’ one holiday now behind them—and no longer needing to worry about becoming a meal for their neighbors—Poppy, the endlessly cheerful Troll queen, has taken it upon herself to introduce a new day of festivities to Bergen Town.” The synopsis continues, “In her quest, she enlists the hesitant Branch and the colorful Snack Pack to help convince her Bergen friends, Bridget and King Gristle Jr., that adopting a fresh holiday could enhance their lives. However, Poppy’s enthusiasm for a celebration as lively, chaotic, and sparkly as Ticklepalooza or Balloon Squeal Day may not align with the Bergens’ more reserved nature.” There’s bound to be plenty of drama amongst these whimsical characters, but we trust Poppy and her creative flair will navigate any challenge.
Original Cast Returns
What’s even better is that the cast remains intact for this special. Alongside Kendrick and Timberlake, the original lineup will return to voice their characters, including Zooey Deschanel as Bridget, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as King Gristle Jr., James Corden as Biggie, Ron Funches as Cooper, and Icona Pop’s Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo as Chenille and Satin, respectively. Kunal Nayyar will voice Guy Diamond, while Walt Dohrn returns as Cloud Guy, Smidge, and Fuzzbert.
Get Ready for the Premiere
If you’re struggling with the wait (or perhaps seeking a few moments of peace from your little ones), DreamWorks has released a sneak peek of the special’s opening. Check it out below, and make sure to clear your schedule for Friday night or catch it on Netflix starting December 6th. Don’t miss out on the fun!
Trolls Holiday is scheduled to air on Friday, November 24th, at 8:30 PM EST on NBC.
