While little Ella had no issue embracing Disney’s beloved character, she’s not so keen on showering her own mom with affection.
There’s truly no group of beings on earth as unpredictable as toddlers. Parents of these little ones understand that their mood swings can either brighten your day or completely turn it upside down in seconds. Jamie Rowe can certainly relate.
Documenting her family’s Disney adventure on Instagram, Jamie shared a delightful video of Ella joyfully meeting Minnie Mouse (who wouldn’t be excited?). The video was incredibly cute, but it was Jamie’s caption that struck a chord with parents everywhere: “She gives me a hug once a week.” LOL.
The Rowe family is currently in Hong Kong while Jamie’s partner, Mark, is on tour, and they decided to enjoy a day at Disneyland, complete with adorable toddler costumes. Because when you’re at Disney, you embrace the magic.
In the video with Minnie, Ella is fully engaged and ready to hug the cheerful character without a second thought. But when it comes to her parents? Forget it. Toddlers have mastered the art of withholding affection.
As the mother of a toddler just a few months older than Ella, I can attest to this phenomenon. My daughter is notoriously stingy with her hugs and kisses, often too engrossed in her playtime to stop for a quick embrace. Despite spending every waking moment together while I work from home, I rarely receive that “I missed you” hug after a long day. When my partner and I ask for a kiss, she typically responds by presenting her forehead with a sigh, as if to say, “Fine, here you go.”
Recently, Jamie took to Twitter to connect with fellow parents and gather their stories of “mean kids” after a tough day of parenting. She’s always refreshingly honest about the ups and downs of motherhood, which is why we appreciate her so much.
Let’s send Jamie a big, collective hug, shall we? Because, well, toddlers!
