A few months back, I accomplished what once seemed unattainable—I finally emptied the laundry basket. Naturally, my family and I aren’t nudists, so that fleeting sense of triumph quickly vanished, returning me to my everyday reality. But during that brief moment? I felt like a true superstar—well, perhaps a faded one-hit wonder, but still a star nonetheless.
Last Saturday evening, I stumbled upon that elusive feeling once more, this time while in my kitchen. Since relocating to a new home a few months ago, takeout and plastic containers had become my kitchen’s best friends, a fact I’m not particularly proud of. Thankfully, renovations are nearing completion, and I can almost envision the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. While we anxiously await new cabinets, shelves, and a backsplash, I took it upon myself to organize what I could—namely, the drawers and pantry.
First Task: Conquer the Coffee Chaos
While I’m not an avid coffee drinker at home, I wanted to make sure any guests or friends had everything they might need readily available yet neatly tucked away. Enter a set of bamboo deep drawer organizers; just like that, what used to be a chaotic coffee drawer transformed into a mini coffee shop.
Speaking of drawers, reaching for a knife in our previous home was akin to navigating a minefield, with frequent mishaps. Now, equipped with a knife dock, each blade has a designated spot, significantly reducing the need for Bandaids.
Another persistent kitchen dilemma has been cereal. Is it really that difficult to fold the plastic bag and close the cardboard box? Apparently, my children struggle with this concept. The solution? Cereal dispensers! These nifty gadgets have ended my morning battles over breakfast and even allow me to purchase the generic store brand without them noticing the difference.
Though our kitchen won’t be fully finished for a few more months, these small alterations have made a considerable impact. Perhaps they can do the same for you! A big thank you to the Container Store for a productive Saturday night and for creating kitchen drawers that bring me sheer delight every time I open them. (And yes, I am aware I should probably get out more; I’ll work on it.)
