It looks like 2020 is about to get a little brighter! While we may still be waiting for final election results, Star Wars fans have received an early holiday treat: a new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special set to premiere on Disney+ later this month.
The trailer for the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special has just been released, featuring appearances from many beloved characters from the galaxy far, far away. In the preview, Rey stumbles upon an ancient key that serves as a unique time travel device. Her journey takes her across different eras of Star Wars lore, where she encounters iconic figures from both the past and present.
“Rey embarks on a fresh quest with BB-8 to deepen her understanding of the Force,” reads the YouTube description. “In a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is propelled into a cross-timeline adventure that leads her through cherished scenes from the Star Wars cinematic universe, interacting with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan, and a host of other legendary heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she return in time for the Life Day feast and grasp the true essence of holiday spirit?”
As Rey strives to enhance her connection to the Force, she zooms through some of the most memorable moments in Star Wars history, meeting young and old Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and more.
The trailer offers glimpses of comedic moments too, like Lando eagerly asking if his gift is a cape and a flustered Palpatine requesting that a shirtless Kylo Ren put on some clothing. Plus, there’s a laugh-out-loud moment where Rey summarizes her lineage: “We’ve seen my master, my master’s master, my master’s father, and my master’s father’s master!” referring to Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.
This trailer also nods to various elements from the Star Wars franchise, including the twin suns of Tatooine from the original 1977 film, A New Hope, right up to the much-loved Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian.
