Christmas has arrived early!
If their popular shirtless calendars or the new firefighter pillowcases weren’t enough to brighten your days during these past few chaotic months, the Australian firefighters have an additional treat for you: a nearly four-minute video showcasing these heroic figures as they lovingly interact with puppies and kittens dressed in Santa hats. As artificial snow softly falls, they pet and cuddle the adorable animals, blowing kisses and waving to the camera, all while a cover of Mariah Carey’s festive classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” performed by Diamond White, plays in the background.
“Merry Christmas from the Australian Firefighters Calendar,” they share in the video.
This heartwarming video follows the release of their new merchandise and annual calendar, with proceeds going to various animal charities, including the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, where they are establishing Australia’s first mobile wildlife hospital.
“Our team recognized the urgent need to focus on Australian wildlife this year,” explains Tom Harrison, director of the Australian Firefighters Calendar. “The devastating bushfires affected everyone, and the loss of wildlife is unimaginable,” he adds.
Funds raised from the 2021 Animal Lovers Calendar will specifically assist wildlife injured in the recent bushfires, which claimed the lives of an estimated 1 billion animals in Australia last year. Additionally, proceeds from the dog and cat calendars will support rescue organizations like Safe Haven Animal Rescue and All Breeds Canine Rescue, among others.
“After battling the fires and witnessing the suffering of wildlife, my team and I felt compelled to take further action,” states Alex Walker, a leading firefighter from Fire Rescue New South Wales. “We contributed to the care of a koala named Bella, and seeing the incredible work done by volunteers at the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital changed our perspective on wildlife protection forever.”
Last year, calendar sales significantly aided Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, allowing them to purchase crucial supplies that helped save numerous animals during the bushfires. “The donations from the calendar were essential during the crisis; they allowed us to save many lives,” shares Dr. Sarah Lee, head veterinarian.
Now in its 28th year, the Australian Firefighters Calendar has raised over $3.2 million for various charities.
