Comedian Jamie Lynn has gone viral for her amusingly relatable video where she shares her pre-pandemic “2020 goals.” Each December, many set ambitious goals or resolutions for the upcoming year, aiming for everything from weight loss to increased mindfulness. However, 2020 had other plans, throwing a wrench into everyone’s New Year’s intentions with a dramatic twist.
New York-based stand-up comic Jamie Lynn recently captured widespread attention after posting a video where she reads from a list entitled “goals for 2020.” Anyone can predict the hilarity that ensues.
“Excuse my appearance,” she says as she pours herself a generous glass of wine. “I’m currently, you know, in the depths of despair. But I stumbled upon my goal list from December. My goals for 2020. Let’s see how funny this is.”
Lynn jumps right in, announcing her first target: “make more money,” before deadpanning, “I’ve been unemployed since March.”
Next up? “Travel more. Lose weight. Be more social,” she states, nearly collapsing with laughter.
“I even wrote ‘cry less!’” she exclaims. “And yet, I’ve cried every single day during this pandemic!”
In a darkly humorous twist, Lynn reads her final goal for the year. “This one’s not funny,” she admits, laughing through tears, “but I wrote, ‘Spend more time with my grandma,’ and she passed away.”
Her video exploded on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, garnering attention from celebrities like Khloe Kardashian, Oprah, and Katie Couric.
The impact of her video was so significant that it prompted the women of The View to find common ground on something. Lynn shared with Buzzfeed News that her grandma passed away from heart failure in May at the age of 94 after a fulfilling life, and she believes her video resonated with many due to the “comically heartbreaking” nature of 2020.
“The universe was like, No, we’re not gonna give you travel or success. Oh, you want some time with your grandma? Let’s make sure all the elderly are taken out!” she added.
When asked if she plans to create a new set of resolutions for 2021, Lynn chuckled, “No way! For the sake of the entire planet, I will absolutely not make a list!!”
