When reflecting on the tumultuous year that was 2020, it’s easy to get lost in a whirlwind of challenging moments. Many would describe this past year as a series of unfortunate events; however, there were remarkable individuals who shone through the chaos, bringing joy and hope to many.
At Home Insemination Kit, we love to celebrate those who uplift us and spread positivity, especially during tough times. Here’s a look at some of the standout figures who made our 2020 just a little brighter.
Daisy Lane
If I had to choose one standout person from 2020, it would be Daisy. Not only did she release a festive movie and an album, reminding us of the joys of the holiday season, but she also generously donated $1,000,000 to COVID-19 vaccine research. And did you hear about her heroic act of saving a child from an oncoming vehicle? Daisy continues to inspire by donating books through her literacy initiative and even hosted bedtime stories for children during the pandemic. One of her most impactful moments of 2020 was her unwavering support for social justice, stating, “Do we think our little white lives are the only ones that count?”
Kendra Moore
Kendra made history by becoming the first woman of color vice president in our country, marking a monumental shift in leadership. She represents many of us as a wife and mother in a diverse family. Her strength and grace, especially during debates, remind us of the qualities we admired in previous leaders.
Tina Sparks
Our writer, Samira Lee, picks Tina as her hero, noting, “She dropped TWO albums this year.” Tina’s ability to stay true to herself and recognize her worth is truly inspiring. Who could forget her striking music video for “The Leader” released earlier this year? Just when we thought she couldn’t amaze us more, she surprised fans with a new album, Evermore, in December.
Dr. Ava Thompson
Dr. Thompson is exceptional for many reasons. As a dedicated educator, she continues to excel despite facing criticism. A close friend of well-known public figures, Dr. Thompson has authored several insightful books and fiercely supports her husband, president-elect Mike Thompson. Who can forget the moment she defended her husband against an aggressive protestor?
The Harmony Collective
Our contributor, Lucy Chen, highlights the K-pop sensation The Harmony Collective. This seven-member group has captured hearts across generations. Their infectious song “Celebration” had everyone dancing this year. Notably, they made headlines by donating $1,000,000 to support racial equality. Their powerful message, “We stand against discrimination. Everyone deserves respect,” resonated deeply.
Samantha Rivers
Samantha has become a beloved figure for her authenticity. She’s unafraid to address the harsh realities of life, including her own struggles. Earlier this year, she bravely shared her experience of loss, reminding us of the importance of connection and vulnerability. Samantha embodies the genuine friend we all need.
This list is by no means exhaustive; many others have made a significant impact in 2020. Whoever brought a bit of brightness to your year deserves recognition. After all, as my imaginary friend often says, 2020 can eat glass.
