In a candid message, Harper Lee has decided to stop posting her workout routines on social media, highlighting the need for a healthier perspective on body image. The model, known for her advocacy of body positivity, shared her thoughts on Instagram, emphasizing the negative impact that showcasing fitness can have on perceptions of larger bodies.
“My first post of the year is just me ranting, go figure,” Harper said in her video. “Plus-size and fat bodies are often treated as props, weaponized against us. We’re sold the idea of ‘good fats’ versus ‘bad’ when the truth is, we don’t owe anyone our health or fitness.”
She elaborated on her decision to no longer share workout content, stating, “I’m stepping back from sharing my workouts to prevent contributing to the harmful narrative surrounding larger bodies. No one deserves love and acceptance solely based on fitness levels or body tone.”
Harper aims to create a welcoming environment where individuals can embrace themselves and celebrate their bodies. “My purpose is to help others reach a place of self-acceptance and love for their bodies,” she explained. “What you do with your body is your own business. I refuse to let anyone diminish who I am because they feel uncomfortable. If they are, that’s their issue, not mine.”
Harper has previously opened up about the emotional toll of dealing with online negativity regarding her size. “I’m exhausted and emotionally drained,” she admitted in a past story. “Ten years of defending my right to happiness as a plus-size woman online is a lot. Just one day without negativity would be nice.”
Though she’s stepping away from fitness posts, Harper remains committed to promoting the message that every body deserves love, and that self-perception should come from within.
