Following a struggle that lasted nearly 15 minutes, he was sedated with 500 milligrams of ketamine and later suffered two heart attacks before being declared brain dead on August 30.
Governor Polis previously stated that McClain’s case was “truly exceptional” and warranted state-level investigation, given its gravity. In July, three Aurora police officers were fired after it was revealed they had taken inappropriate photos near a memorial for McClain, mocking the incident. However, no charges have been filed against the officers involved in McClain’s death as of now.
