Matthew Trebek, son of the late Alex Trebek, has generously donated his father’s extensive wardrobe from Jeopardy! to help formerly incarcerated and homeless men prepare for job interviews. Alex Trebek, who was known for his warm demeanor and stylish appearance, passed away at 80 after battling pancreatic cancer. After his father’s death, Matthew, realizing that the suits would not fit him due to his height, wanted to ensure the garments found a worthy home. He chose to donate the collection to the Doe Fund, an organization dedicated to assisting individuals transitioning from homelessness and incarceration.

As reported by InsideWink, Matthew has previously collaborated with the Doe Fund, offering training opportunities for men in his New York restaurants. He felt that donating his father’s wardrobe would allow the recipients to start their new professional lives with confidence. “I loved the idea of guys getting a second chance to go on interviews and feel presentable in my dad’s clothes,” Matthew shared with The Washington Post, highlighting the significance of the donation.

A Generous Collection

In January, Matthew donated a meticulously maintained collection that included 300 neckties, 58 dress shirts, 25 polo shirts, 15 belts, 14 suits, nine sports coats, and various sweaters and winter coats. Harriet McDonald, president of the Doe Fund, stated that many of the suits and shirts have already been distributed to program participants in need of professional attire. The ties are also being given as gifts to those starting new jobs. One recipient expressed his gratitude, saying, “Alex Trebek was a sharp-dressed man, and now I’m wearing his suits? Amazing.”

This support is invaluable to the men served by the Doe Fund, who are often in need of professional clothing as they undergo career training and seek stable employment. The organization remarked on social media that Alex Trebek is a “guardian angel” watching over those in need.
