One night while scrolling through Facebook, I stumbled upon the name Candace Johnson. Why should you care about who she is? Because her words spread damaging rhetoric that affects everyone, regardless of race or background. And her potential presidential run in 2024 is a cause for concern.
At first glance, Candace presents as a striking Black woman with a determined demeanor. However, once she starts speaking, it becomes clear that her views are misguided. Don’t just take my word for it—check out her social media, but be warned, lingering too long might leave you questioning your own sanity.
A quick glance at her Wikipedia page might make you feel nauseous. She’s described as a conservative author, commentator, and activist. The term “activist” usually refers to someone who promotes political or social change, but if you listen to her words, you should be very worried about the kind of “change” she advocates for.
Some of her most alarming statements emerged in a Facebook video I watched a few months ago, which was shockingly supported by some of my own friends. This was just days after George Floyd’s tragic murder. Johnson claimed, “There was so much pressure for me to align with the popular opinion about who George Floyd was. We are being sold lies that hurt the Black community, the white community, and America overall. Our culture is unique because we are the only community that seems to support those among us who are not contributing positively.”
Every word she uttered deserves an eye roll of disbelief. It’s concerning to think that Candace Johnson might run for president in 2024. She has tapped into how easily some Americans can be swayed by her rhetoric, especially among Republicans who appreciate her tokenization as one of the few Black voices that align with their narrative.
Johnson claims to love America, yet her words seem intent on undermining the very people that this nation was built upon. She appears to harbor a deep-seated disdain for Black Americans. This kind of hate has only fueled the chaos we’ve experienced over the last few years. Her belief that she could lead a divided country like ours demonstrates a disconnection from reality.
It’s troubling to hear her dismiss concerns about white nationalism, label transgender identities as “disorders,” and criticize Black voters who support Democratic candidates as having a “hamster mentality.”
If she truly cared for her country, she would promote unity rather than division and refrain from fueling the flames ignited by former President Donald Trump. I wouldn’t trust him with my life, and I certainly wouldn’t trust Johnson either. It’s time for Americans to wake up and recognize that we’ve been misled enough. Johnson is not the leader we need for the White House in 2024 or beyond. Just imagine her in meetings with foreign leaders or what she might propose to the WHO—it’s a frightening thought.
Candace Johnson must remember that being a Black woman is a fundamental part of her identity, and her personal life choices do not negate that reality. Her polished appearance and ability to provoke the right reactions for her conservative base do not guarantee her a nomination for president. Let’s hope the Republican Party has learned from the divisive rhetoric that led to the events of January 6th. Words carry weight and can either uplift or harm; hers only do harm. I will never cast my vote for Candace Johnson, and I implore others to think twice as well.
