From a Pediatric Urgent Care Physician: Let's Follow the Kids' Lead on COVID-19At home insemination kit

I recently received an invitation to an adult birthday celebration, and I was taken aback. A gathering? With multiple families? This invite came from someone who is usually very committed to COVID-19 safety protocols, which made it all the more surprising.

As COVID-19 infection rates decline and vaccinations rise, many are beginning to feel more comfortable and relaxed. However, we must remain vigilant. Just because we’re seeing progress doesn’t mean we should let our guard down yet.

My fitness instructor often reminds us, “You didn’t come this far just to come this far!” This wisdom resonates now more than ever.

The holiday season taught us a crucial lesson: COVID-19 thrives on gatherings, even small ones. The CDC reported a peak of over 300,000 weekly cases in January, underlining the risks associated with group interactions, especially when food, drink, and laughter are involved.

We know what measures need to be taken. When our kids returned to school in September, we insisted they wear masks, maintain distance, and practice good hygiene. So why aren’t we adults holding ourselves to the same standards?

For months, we’ve observed our children adapt to these changes with resilience and responsibility. They engage in remote learning, follow safety protocols, and understand the importance of these actions to protect their loved ones.

As frustrating as it may be, let’s take a page from their book. I, too, long for the days when life felt normal. However, I also want to see a decrease in the number of children needing COVID-19 tests and those affected by severe post-COVID-19 complications, like MIS-C.

So, let’s follow our kids’ example and skip the party. I graciously declined the invitation.
