In the latest chapter of his California journey, Prince William’s brother, now known as Harry Windsor, has taken on the position of Chief Impact Officer at a mental health startup named BetterUp. This comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding his family following a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, BetterUp is described as a rapidly expanding coaching and mental health organization. According to Omid Johnson, co-author of the book Finding Freedom: The Modern Royal Family, Harry’s responsibilities will encompass product strategy, public advocacy, and more.
“I aim to create meaningful change in people’s lives,” Harry shared in an email to the WSJ, explaining his motivation for joining BetterUp. “Proactive coaching opens up limitless opportunities for personal growth, heightened awareness, and an overall improved quality of life.”
His profile on the startup’s website highlights his dedication to fostering systemic change through nonprofit initiatives and creative projects. Mentioning Archewell, the organization he and Meghan Markle launched together last year, the profile states, “The mission of Archewell—which includes the Archewell Foundation, Archewell Productions, and Archewell Audio—is rooted in the strong belief that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century.”
Clearly, compassion and mental health are key priorities for the couple, particularly following Meghan’s candid disclosure about her struggles with suicidal thoughts during her royal engagements. Harry has consistently advocated for mental health awareness, making this position a fitting choice for him.
“This is about recognizing that it’s not as much about what’s wrong with us, but rather what we’ve experienced throughout our lives,” Harry expressed to the WSJ on the significance of mental well-being. “Due to societal barriers, financial constraints, or stigmas, far too many individuals can’t prioritize their mental health until it becomes urgent. I want to shift the perspective that one must feel broken before seeking help.”
Harry’s new role at BetterUp follows their agreements with Netflix and Spotify, where they will produce content aligned with their values. It appears the couple will remain active in California, undeterred by any familial tensions across the Atlantic.
