Lifetime is wrapping up its Harry and Meghan movie trilogy, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! If there’s one thing we can always rely on, it’s Lifetime. The network serves up delightfully cheesy holiday films that make the season feel magical, true crime stories that satisfy our curiosity for the morbid, and rom-coms that are so absurd they’re best enjoyed with a glass of wine. But one of Lifetime’s hallmarks is its “unauthorized” behind-the-scenes narratives — from beloved TV shows to the lives of child actors and even members of the Royal Family. After delivering some memorable films about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Lifetime is set to release another.
The upcoming film, titled Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, gives a clear hint about its focus. We can expect the writers to draw heavily from the explosive interview Harry and Meghan had with Oprah, where they shared the circumstances that led to their decision to step back from royal duties and build a new life in the U.S.
As detailed in a press release, the movie will “uncover the real story behind what transpired in the palace that pushed Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind to create a future for themselves and their son, Archie.” It will highlight Meghan’s increasing sense of isolation and despair, their disappointment in “The Firm” for not defending them against media attacks, and Harry’s fears of history repeating itself, making him unable to protect his wife and son from the same forces that led to his mother’s tragic passing.
The movie will also delve into the personal family conflicts involving William and Harry, Kate and Meghan, as well as Harry’s strained relationships with both William and Charles, which ultimately resulted in their departure from royal life.
In short, we can’t wait! This is exactly the type of content we crave. Filming for the new movie is set to kick off this spring, but there’s no information yet regarding the actors who will portray Harry and Meghan. Previously, Lifetime cast Murray Fraser and Charlie Field as Harry, and Parisa Fitz-Henley and Tiffany Smith as Meghan. If they stick to their pattern, we’ll likely see new faces in these royal roles when the film premieres.
If Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace is anything like Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance — a true Lifetime classic — it will be a must-watch.
